  • Improving Infection Prevention and Antibiotic Use in Long-Term Care: From Guidance to Practice

    Nov 5 - 6, (ET)
The Loeb criteria, a set of minimum criteria for initiating antibiotics for nursing home residents, have guided antibiotic prescribing in nursing homes for more than two decades. The Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) will be releasing update of these criteria in October 2026 that will provide evidence-informed practical recommendations for urinary, respiratory, skin and soft tissue, and C. difficile infections, while incorporating antimicrobial stewardship and diagnostic decision-making into everyday practice. Parallel to the release SHEA will be offering a two-day virtual workshop that is focused on putting the newly updated guidance into practice. Improving Infection Prevention and Antibiotic Use in Long-Term Care: From Guidance to Practice is a live virtual workshop that will take place on November 5–6, 2026. This workshop goes beyond the guidelines to explore real-world scenarios, evidence-based strategies, and practical approaches you can implement immediately in your facility. What you'll gain: Strategies to strengthen infection prevention and control programs. Guidance for applying updated IPC recommendations in long-term care. Tools to support appropriate antibiotic initiation and improve prescribing decisions. Expert insights into addressing common infection prevention and antibiotic stewardship challenges. Opportunities to engage with faculty and connect with peers facing similar issues. Whether you're leading an antibiotic stewardship program, managing infection prevention efforts, or providing direct resident care, you'll leave with actionable knowledge to enhance resident safety and improve quality of care. AGS members can use code AGS26 at checkout to register at the discounted member rate. If the correct rate of $199 is not reflected at checkout, do not proceed with payment and reach out to learning@shea-online.org . Please note, single-day registration is not available.
