Meet the Author – Carlos Reyes-Ortiza, MD, PhD.

Please join us for a conversation with Carlos A. Reyes Ortiz, MD, PhD, who is an associate public health professor in the FAMU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPs, IPH) in Colombia. He was recently named a U.S. Fulbright Scholar for the second time and plans to use his Fulbright funding to assess frailty, functional and mental status among institutionalized older adults as a result of COVID-19 at the 260-bed Geriatric Hospital and Nursing Home San Miguel (GHNH-SM) in Cali, Colombia. Members of the AGS International Special Interest Group recently caught up with Dr. Reyes-Ortiza at #AGS2022 and we have invited him for a conversation with us about the state of the eldercare workforce in Latin America. He is the co-author of a seminal paper published in 2015 that sought to quantify the status of geriatrics education in graduate and undergraduate education in Latin America.

We are looking forward to learning more about Dr. Reyes-Ortiz’s work during the first half hour of our meeting.  We will use the second half hour to garner feedback from International SIG members to be used in planning our future meetings so that we are supporting SIG members from around the world who are caring for all of us as we age.
