What’s in the lab, what’s moving to the bedside, and where do we go next?
From genomics and artificial intelligence to paradigm-shifting insights, scientific breakthroughs of unprecedented power just keep coming. As human creativity is paired with the power of computers and the speed of automation, new treatments for rare diseases are emerging. Much more is to come as researchers map every cell in the human body and develop simple blood tests to identify cancer. Along the way, unexpected findings are altering medical recommendations and the capacity to edit human genes is raising profound ethical questions. Some of our most fundamental assumptions about life are being challenged – when two female mice can be successfully mated to produce a healthy baby, what else might be possible? What’s in the lab, what’s moving to the bedside, and where do we go next?
